Difference Between Aceclofenac and Diclofenac

Diclofenac and aceclofenac are Non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Both can be used to relieve pain. They act on COX enzyme and reduces the production of prostaglandins. COX (cyclo oxygenase) enzymes are blocked by these drugs. This will reduces the inflammatory mediators. The cardinal features of inflammation (redness, swelling, pain, warmness, loss of function) will be reduced by these drugs.

Pain is an unpleasant feeling which needs relieve. The pain killers are used to control the pain. NSAIDs are group of drugs which effectively control the pain. Diclofenac is a NSAID drug which was used for long time. Diclofenac has an anti pyretic action (against fever) also. It is useful to control fever arising from some cancers (lymphomas).

Diclofenac may cause severe gastric ulcer if taken in improper way. The drug should be taken after the meals. Taking the drug in empty stomach will results in severe abdominal pain. To reduce the gastritis caused by NSAID, H2 receptor blockers (ex Famotidine) or proton pump inhibitors (omeprazole) may be given. Diclofenc is contra indicated in severe gastritis. To reduce the risk of developing gastritis, the enteric coated slow releasing tablets are available.

Aceclofec structurally shows some differences. It is also more potent than Diclofenac in its action against pain.
