Diabetes is something that everyone is scared of. Diabetes and human’s relationship is from ages. And much human fear to have diabetes, but what we don’t know is the majority of diabetes comes from an unbalanced intake of unhealthy food in long run. We have a good diet and if we have a good workout plan, we may be able to keep us fit more than sick.
Diabetes is a disease that results in high blood sugar levels. Normally, insulin in the human body extracts sugar from the blood and transfers it to cells to store it and use it as a form of energy. But, while having diabetes, insulin in our body rejects the sugar to transfer it from blood to cell and yet it remains in our blood which results in high blood sugar levels.
Diabetics Ketoacidosis (DKA) and Hyperosmolar Hyperglycemic Non-Ketoacidosis (HHNK) is the type of medical emergencies that are observed in the diabetic patient. Both of them are a life-threatening disease which keeps patient lives in danger.
DKA vs HHNK
The main difference between Diabetics Ketoacidosis (DKA) and Hyperosmolar Hyperglycemic Non-Ketoacidosis (HHNK) is Diabetics Ketoacidosis is observed at a fast pace yet it is less dangerous compare to Hyperosmolar Hyperglycemic Non-Ketoacidosis (HHNK) whereas Hyperosmolar Hyperglycemic Non-Ketoacidosis (HHNK) is observed at a slow pace but is a fatal medical emergency.
Comparison Table Between Diabetics Ketoacidosis (DKA) and Hyperosmolar Hyperglycemic Non-Ketoacidosis (HHNK)
Parameters of Comparison | Diabetics Ketoacidosis (DKA) | Hyperosmolar Hyperglycemic Non-Ketoacidosis (HHNK) |
Nature of illness | Diabetics Ketoacidosis (DKA) affects the person who is diabetic. | Hyperosmolar Hyperglycemic Non-Ketoacidosis (HHNK) affects rarely who is a diabetic patient. |
Severity of illness | Diabetics Ketoacidosis (DKA) is less dangerous. | Hyperosmolar Hyperglycemic Non-Ketoacidosis (HHNK) is very dangerous. |
Period | Diabetics Ketoacidosis (DKA) works at a fast pace and hence symptoms are observed in a short period. | Hyperosmolar Hyperglycemic Non-Ketoacidosis (HHNK) works at a slow pace and hence symptoms are observed for a long period. |
Effects on Patient | Effects of Diabetics Ketoacidosis (DKA) can be seen on Patient are of high blood pressure and sugar contents. | Effects of Hyperosmolar Hyperglycemic Non-Ketoacidosis (HHNK) can be seen on Patient are of strokes, coma, and eventually death. |
Symptoms | Symptoms of Diabetics Ketoacidosis (DKA) are a sudden urge of drinking water, vomiting, nausea, and urination which is several times a day. | Symptoms of Hyperosmolar Hyperglycemic Non-Ketoacidosis (HHNK) are a sudden urge of drinking water even when you are not thirsty, urination several times a day, concentrated specific dark-colored urine, and dehydration. |
Medications | Medications for Diabetics Ketoacidosis (DKA) is medicine and precautions. | Medications of Hyperosmolar Hyperglycemic Non-Ketoacidosis (HHNK) are medicines and surgery. |
What is Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) ?
DKA is fully known as Diabetic Ketoacidosis which is a medical emergency in diabetes that is observed in the patient’s body in a short period which works at a high pace.
Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) is a common illness found in diabetic patients. Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) can be found out by symptoms like high blood pressure and high blood sugar levels followed by nausea, vomiting, urge to drink more water, and more urination a day.
What is Hyperosmolar Hyperglycemic Non-Ketoacidosis (HHNK)?
HHNK is fully known as Hyperosmolar Hyperglycemic Non-Ketoacidosis which is a medical emergency in diabetes that is observed in the patient’s body after a long period which works at a slow pace.
Hyperosmolar Hyperglycemic Non-Ketoacidosis (HHNK) is also known as Hyperosmolar Hyperglycemic Non-Ketotic Syndrome (HHNKS). Hyperosmolar Hyperglycemic Non-Ketoacidosis (HHNK) is a rare illness found in diabetic patients.
Hyperosmolar Hyperglycemic Non-Ketoacidosis (HHNK) can be found out by symptoms like dehydration, more urination a day, urge to drink more water even when not thirsty which is foll0wed up by strokes, coma, and eventually death.
Main Differences Between Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) and Hyperosmolar Hyperglycemic Non-Ketoacidosis (HHNK)
- Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) is less dangerous whereas Hyperosmolar Hyperglycemic Non-Ketoacidosis (HHNK) is more dangerous.
- Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) can be cured by proper diet and precautions whereas proper medications are mandatory for Hyperosmolar Hyperglycemic Non-Ketoacidosis(HHNK).
- Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) is a common illness found in diabetic patients whereas Hyperosmolar Hyperglycemic Non-Ketoacidosis (HHNK) is a rare illness found in diabetes.
- Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) is observed from high blood pressure and sugar levels whereas Hyperosmolar Hyperglycemic Non-Ketoacidosis (HHNK ) is observed from stroke, coma, and eventually death.
- Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) shows symptoms in the short-run which works at a fast pace whereas Hyperosmolar Hyperglycemic Non-Ketoacidosis (HHNK) shows symptoms in the long run which works at a slow pace.
- Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) is observed with the presence of ketoacidosis and fruity odor from the mouth whereas Hyperosmolar Hyperglycemic Non-Ketoacidosis (HHNK) is observed with the absence of ketoacidosis and with no odor change.
Conclusion
Diabetes is something people take it very lightly. Just like how cold, fever, and cough are treated they think diabetes can be cured in the same way. But that thinking is fully wrong, Diabetes is known as the king of diseases, it is believed that diabetes brings many more disease together with him.
And without proper medications, monthly checkups, and utmost care of sugar intakes, diabetes cannot be cured. Even if you don’t have diabetes that doesn’t mean you won’t get diabetes in a long run. Precaution is always better than cure.
Utmost good care should be taken of the body too and not just face, body, and hair. What we feed our stomach, shows up with everything we do and most importantly in health. Health is something where people lack awareness, people just end up eating fast foods more than how much they should eat in a one go.
When we eat right and in a good portion, we would be able to keep our immune system more powerful, and yet as a result disease will lose in front of our immune system. And even if our body gets a disease it will be easy to cure the disease if we eat well and eat what is right. Always remember, health is wealth. Prefer health over anything and everything.
