Difference Between Pads and Tampons

Pads and tampons are definite necessities when it comes to women’s monthly circumstance. These materials aid in absorbing the blood flow from the female’s genitalia during their period. Though they both offer the same usage, they generally have different characteristics.

Pads

Pads, also called as sanitary napkin is basically a porous material that is placed inside the underwear to protect the women’s garment from being stained when she’s having her period. It’s generally being referred to as an external protection. It’s flexible so that it can accommodate the movement of the body and it comes in different variations that evolved from the changing lifestyle of women.

Tampons

Tampons are placed in inside the vagina to directly absorb the blood flow. It’s usually made up of a small rolled up cotton and comes with an applicator that can be used when pulling it out. It is usually recommended for women who have very active lifestyles. Though tampons have long been used throughout history, but since its introduction in the market several health concerns has been raised against it.

Difference between Pads and Tampons

It is believed that tampon is more effective in preventing leaks during menstruation. Considering that it is placed inside the vagina, it minimizes the possibility of leaking. However there were reports about tampons not being safe for usage and in fact, blamed for some illnesses that were encountered by women. Given the fact that it cannot be seen when it is already drenched, as compared to the sanitary pad, women must be cautious of the time that they have to change it. Pads on the other hand, though very visible and easy to use can also be a bit bulky to use.

It is important that women know the difference about these two. Though sanitary pads might seem to be the safer and less invasive choice, one cannot disagree on the fact that tampons offer greater freedom in terms of mobility and comfort.
